53 Coyotes Earn Valley Academic Awards
ST. LOUIS Fifty-three South Dakota football players registered at least an average of 3.0 points during the fall semester of 2016 and were named to the MVFC honor list announced Friday by the conference office. In addition, 11 of the coyotes received the Academic Excellence Award, Commissioner, requiring a minimum average of 3.2 for the previous two semesters (freshmen are not eligible) and Senior Miles Bergner received the Academic Price Chairperson of the Board, The highest academic achievement in the league.
Bergner, male athlete of the year this year, participated in athletics for at least two years, was in the 18 hours following graduation and a cumulative GPA above 3.5 after fall semester to receive the President’s Award. This is the fourth time he has been nominated for the honor roll, and the third time he has received the Commissioner’s Award.
Among the recipients of honor dollars, there was Nigeria’s sovereign Justin Meyers and Vermillion graduate Ethan James and Nick Jensen.
Named to the list of Academic Excellence Award of the Commissioner of South Dakota State, was the Indian Yankton Brady Hale. Hale was also the honor roll, with another Jackrabbit Wes Genant (Parkston), Evan Greeneway (Yankton) and Tom Peitz (Crofton, Nebraska).
